Investigations are underway following a fatal crash near Yeppoon.
Around 4.30pm Monday, a Toyota Landcruiser rear ended a Holden Cruze on Limestone Creek Road at Inverness.
Initial investigations indicate the Holden was turning into a private property from the road when it was struck.
An 82-year-old Iverness man, the passenger in the Holden, sustained critical head injuries.
He was transported to Capricorn Coast Hospital in a serious condition, however passed away as a result of his injuries early this morning.
The driver of the Holden, a 67-year-old Iverness man was physically uninjured, while the driver and sole occupant of the Toyota, a 45-year-old Adelaide Park man, was uninjured and is assisting police with their investigation.
Anyone with information, including relevant dashcam vision of the vehicles, is urged to contact police.
Forensic Crash Unit investigations remain ongoing.
