A woman has been rescued as the search continues for a second person missing off the coast of K’gari.
The Australian Maritime Safety Authority received a radio distress call from a vessel off Sandy Cape at 8.20pm on Sunday, via the Gladstone Vessel Traffic Service.
The call stated that a yacht with two people on board, was in difficulty and taking on water.
A search was launched involving AMSA’s Cairns-based Challenger rescue aircraft, along with five rescue helicopters, Queensland Water Police, Volunteer Marine Rescue and other private and commercial vessels.
Rescue crews spotted a woman in the water earlier today.
An AMSA spokesperson says the woman was found alive and winched to safety by the Bundaberg-based Lifeflight helicopter at around 11.30am.
She was airlifted to Bundaberg Hospital for treatment.
The search continues for a missing man.
