The Olympics minister has doubled down on rowing being held in Rocky in 2032.
Minister Tim Mander says the Olympic committee can’t control where Queensland will host the event, the government ultimately having the final say.
Mr Mander said that the IOC does not get to choose the venue, the government does.
He says the event will go ahead in the Fitzroy and not Sydney, Moreton Bay or the Gold Coast which has been proposed.
It comes as plans were revealed for the development of a space in Brisbane that could be proposed as a back up.
The location – a former quarry in North Brisbane- was touted this week as an alternative for the games if the rowing couldn’t be held in Rocky.
A local Rocky MP has slammed the development of a back-up Olympic rowing venue as nonsense.
Donna Kirkland confirming the Fitzroy would be the host venue for the event – and there is no other option.
Local senator Matt Canavan says the current plan in Rocky would save the state 100 million dollars.
