A fugitive remains on the run in central Queensland following a shooting in the far north.
Police nearly had their man when a Holden crewman utility collided with a caravan at Canoona on Kunwarara Road, north of Rockhampton, on Tuesday this week.
They arrested a 47-year-old woman nearby and found a stash of guns and ammunition, but 42-year-old man John Durham Willey (pictured) is still at large and could be armed.
A Public Safety Preservation Act (PSPA) declaration was made and later revoked.
Police were checking a range of possibilities regarding Mr Willey’s location when he allegedly fled into bushland.
Mr Willey is accused of shooting a 45-year-old man in the leg at a Manunda hotel on September 9 and has been on the run since.
Detectives are appealing for information from truckies or motorists who may have inadvertently given Mr Willey a lift.
Mr Willey is believed to be in the Rockhampton area and is considered armed, with the public advised not to approach him.
Police are urging him to come forward or anyone who knows his whereabouts to contact Policelink or Crime Stoppers immediately.
The 47-year-old Cooktown woman has been charged with acts intended to maim, armed robbery, unlawful possession of weapons, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, and four traffic-related offences.
She faced the Rockhampton Magistrates Court yesterday.
