CapRescue has been kept busy with more people heading out on the water in the region.
The Rescue300 helicopter was tasked to six missions across Central Queensland during the Australia Day long weekend, including three marine-related search and rescue operations.
Saturday’s operations included an inter-facility transfer from Emerald, transporting a patient with lower limb injuries to Rockhampton Hospital in a stable condition.
On Monday, CapRescue responded to multiple search and rescue calls at sea.
In the early hours, the crew was dispatched to a vessel that had run aground near Sloping Island. Yeppoon Coastguard had already extracted the two people on board, and Rescue300 met them at Roslyn Bay Marina, transporting one patient to Rockhampton Hospital in a stable condition.
Later, the crew attended a beacon activation near Goble Reef.
Another aircraft was first on scene and reported a vessel with damage and two people on board.
Rescue300 arrived shortly after and remained until VMR arrived to assist.
That evening, Rescue300 was tasked to a reported marine search between Emu Park and Cape Keppel.
While airborne, it was confirmed the suspected vessel was a commercial tanker anchored offshore, and the helicopter was released from the task.
The long weekend also included a second inter-facility transfer from Emerald to Rockhampton Hospital, transporting a one-year-old child with respiratory complications in a stable condition.
CapRescue reminds the community that public holidays and long weekends typically see increased activity on the water and encourages boaters to check safety equipment, carry appropriate communications devices, and remain aware of weather and sea conditions.
