Planned burns will be taking place within Mount Archer National Park and State Forest this week.
As a result of the burns beginning Thursday, smoke may be seen throughout the Mount Archer landscape as well as Emu Park Road, Yeppoon Road, Dairy Inn Road and suburbs west of Mount Archer.
The Zamia walking track will be closed between the Grasstree lookout and First Turkey Mountain Bike Reserve for the duration of the burn.
This burn aims to reduce the volume of forest fuels and to create a mosaic pattern of burnt and unburnt areas and will help reduce the intensity of any subsequent wildfires and provide favourable conditions for natural forest regeneration.
Smoke can decrease visibility on the roads, so it is important that motorists drive safely to the conditions.
Local residents should close windows and doors and keep medications close by if suffering from a respiratory illness.
Live air quality data, and information on smoke and dust health actions, can be found on the Queensland Government’s website.
