Originally from the small town of Bowen in North Queensland, Hammo went to school at Saint Mary's and then onto boarding School at Mount Carmel College at Charters Towers. His first job was working on a farm in the Bowen area, and after 12 months he moved into the hospitality industry at the Denison Hotel in Bowen.

Hammo is held with high regard as a corporate MC working for many companies all around Australia, as a Spruiker he has been covering events such as The Bowen Fishing Classic since 1995, The Winton Outback Festival since 2001 (he is also the race caller for Winton Dunny Derby at this event), Ingham Italian Festival since 2005 and over a dozen other events every year, he is well sought after for his corporate race day antics including comedy.

Hammo brings an experienced and uncompromised edge to news commentary.
