Qld Rail imposes vaccine mandate for Rockhampton Tilt Train
Some of Queensland's most popular long distance and tourist train lines will mandate Covid vaccines for some customers and staff, including services in Rockhampton.
Services running through Cairns, Bundaberg and Rockhampton are all included in the new vaccination requirement, with all staff on specific lines to be double dosed by December 17.
Queensland Rail's Head of Regional Jim Benstead says these services include the Kuranda Scenic Rail, as well as the Rockhampton and Bundaberg Tilt Trains.
"From December 17, all customers and staff who travel on the Kuranda Scenic Rail and Gulflander tourism services will need to be fully vaccinated," Mr Benstead says.
"In addition, all on board staff of Queensland Rail’s Travel services – the Westlander, Inlander, Spirit of Queensland, Spirit of the Outback and Rockhampton and Bundaberg Tilt Trains – will need to be fully vaccinated.
"Customers on these services are also required to be fully vaccinated, if they wish to use the on-board dining rooms."
The vaccination mandate applies to those who are 16 years of age or over, and who does not have a medical exemption to receive a vaccine.
Mr Benstead says the change is in response to Queensland Health's requirements for hospitality workers and venues to be fully vaccinated from December 17.
"We are gradually making contact with customers already booked on to these services from 17 December, and thank them for their cooperation and understanding as we work with Queensland Health to implement these mandatory changes."
