A four-wheel-drive has crashed into water in Central Queensland this morning, with a man needing to be rescued.

Emergency crews were called to Port Alma Road at Bajool around 4.40am, where the vehicle had rolled down an embankment and was on its side in waist-high water.

A Queensland Fire and Emergency Service spokesperson says crews arrived around 5am and had the man free within about 20 minutes.

A spokesperson for Queensland Ambulance says the man had neck and back pain.

He was taken to Rockhampton Hospital in a stable condition.
