Search Launched For Man Missing In Central Qld Waters

UPDATE | The search for a 60-year-old man missing in waters off North Keppel Island will continue on Thursday.  

Wednesday's search concluded at last light with air and sea assets searching an area in excess of 125sqnm north west of the man’s last known location.

On Thursday, the search area will be extended further north to account for prevailing currents and wind.

Conditions are expected to be favourable.

The search will again involve water police and coast guard vessels, as well as helicopter support from RACQ LifeFlight.

The man, from Dysart, was reported missing on January 14 after he and a 62-year-old Yeppoon man attempted to swim to their seven-metre vessel which was dragging its anchor near Conical Rocks at around 3am.

The 62-year-old made it to the vessel, however the 60-year-old man failed to reach the boat.

Police remain in constant contact with the man’s family, working together during this difficult time.

EARLIER | The search for the missing man off the Capricorn Coast is continuing on Wednesday.

Rescue crews are extensively scouring waters off North Keppel Island with Queensland Police coordinating air and sea assets.

It comes after a 60-year-old man was reported missing in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

Search conditions remain favourable and encompass an area in excess of 125sqnm north west of the man’s last known location.

EARLIER | Police are coordinating a search operation in waters off North Keppel Island after a 60-year-old man was reported missing in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

Initial information indicates around 3:00AM, two men were attempting to swim to their seven-metre vessel which was dragging its anchor near Conical Rocks.

One of the men, a 62-year-old made it to the vessel, however the other man did not reach it and remains missing.

The search involves Yeppoon Water Police, coastguard and multiple aerial assets.

The 62-year-old man who was located was taken to Yeppoon Hospital in a stable condition.
