The RACQ Capricorn Rescue Helicopter crew has been called to Mount Larcom where an elderly man ran into a spot of bother during the descent.

The chopper headed to the scene at 6.00PM on Saturday.

They were told that an elderly man in his 70’s had been walking up the mountain with family and been on the downhill return trek when he realised he was too tired to continue.

He found that he was no longer able to negotiate the terrain back down from the top of the mountain.

The RACQ Capricorn Helicopter crew located the very fatigued man in company of Queensland Ambulance Service personnel about halfway up the mountain and prepared for a winch extraction.

The Rescue Crew officer and Critical Care Paramedic were winched approximately 100ft down into the treacherous steep terrain whereby the patient was treated for exhaustion and dehydration.

The patient was winched into the aircraft via a rescue harness and taken to Rockhampton Hospital for further treatment.
