Rockhampton Health Alert Sparked By Dengue Case

breaking news

Rockhampton has recorded its first locally acquired case of Dengue Fever in decades, forcing authorities to declare a public health emergency.

The Courier-Mail can reveal Queensland Health will enact a full outbreak response in Rockhampton on Friday.

Before this case, authorities had managed to keep dengue contained to the far north.

On Friday the Central Queensland Public Health Unit and Rockhampton Regional Council will go door-to-door in the patient’s neighbourhood to warn residents the Courier Mail reports.

The mosquito known as an Aedes aegypti is a carrier of the Dengue virus.
