Long-term Rockhampton Relay For Life supporter Councillor Rose Swadling will once again help fight back against cancer this weekend, but this time as Patron of Cancer Council Queensland event.
Cr Swadling, who is the Chair of Rockhampton Regional Council’s Community Services Committee, is passionate about raising the profile of Rockhampton Relay For Life and how the funds raised help support locals affected by cancer.

She encouraged the local community to get involved in the event, to be held from 2pm on Saturday until 8am on Sunday at CQUniversity, saying it’s not too late to support the cause.
“I strongly urge our whole community to come on this journey with the many participants who have already registered to ensure we can fight the good fight and kick cancer to the kerb,” she said.
“Participants that fundraise and participate in Relay are vital because they help Cancer Council Queensland continue its work to fight against the dreadful scourge.
“There has been incredible success in improving cancer treatments thanks to research and ongoing funding is necessary to ensure this continues.”
Relay For Life is a community fundraising initiative where teams of families, friends and colleagues fundraise in the lead up to a 18 hour event. Team members then take turns to walk around the track to signify that cancer never sleeps.
All funds raised for Relay For Life are invested in lifesaving cancer research, prevention programs and support services.
Cancer Council Queensland CEO Ms Chris McMillan thanked Cr Swadling for her support of Rockhampton Relay For Life.
“We are grateful to have Councillor Swadling on board, to help bring awareness to Rockhampton Relay and our goal of a cancer-free future,” Ms McMillan said.
“More than 1285 people are diagnosed with cancer each year in Central Queensland– with your support, we can be there for them every minute, every hour, every day.
“Be part of the movement that makes a difference and join us this weekend at Rockhampton Relay For Life!”
On the day registrations for Rockhampton Relay For Life are $40.
