Tropical Cyclone Oma's path is now looking a little more certain.
She has been downgraded to a Category One overnight and is expected to remain a comfortable distance off Queensland's coastline.
Michael Gray from the Bureau of Meteorology said on Friday that the main development overnight is that TC Oma is now around 710 kilometres east north east of Brisbane.
"The Cyclone Watch has been cancelled for the areas from Bundaberg to Ballina, and including the Sunshine Coast and Gold Coast, but a Severe Weather Warning remains in place for abnormally high tides, dangerous surf and damaging winds" he said.
"At the moment we're looking at it mostly tracking to the north over the next couple of days, so on Friday afternoon and Saturday afternoon, slightly more to the south and then heading back towards the north.
"So staying a bit further away from the coast now but that doesn't lessen the impact for us, for beaches and coastal areas.
Oma is expected to stay well off the coast but Mr Gray said we don't want to become complacent. "We don't want people to relax completely, but we can be a little more assured that the most up to date forecasts from the Bureau are suggesting it will stay a little further away from the coast than we first thought a day or two ago" he said.
