Woman airlifted after vehicle crashes into tree

An elderly woman has been pulled from a vehicle, moments before it was engulfed by flames at Kokotungo, around 100km south west of Rockhampton.

It happened at 2.13 on Saturday afternoon, when the vehicle she was in ran into a tree at the Leicchhardt Highway and Baralaba Rannes Road intersection.

Emergency services rushed to the scene, including the RACQ CapRescue helicopter which left base at 2.40pm.

A CapRescue spokesperson says a passer-by managed to remove the woman from the vehicle before it erupted into flames.

Paramedics assessed the woman and stabilised her for flight.

She was airlifted to Rockhampton Hospital in a serious condition.
