Smoke warning for Gracemere, Mount Morgan

Fire warnings have been issued for parts of Central Queensland.

Queensland’s Fire and Emergency Service reported a fire burning at Mount Morgan at 2.00pm yesterday along the Burnett Highway, near Nine Mile Creek.

They have also issued a smoke warning for Port Curtis, Gracemere and surrounding areas, with a fire reported near the Bruce Highway at Port Curtis, at around 5.00pm yesterday.

There is no threat to property at this time, however locals are being reminded to be cautious on the road as there may be low visibility and to close up their homes if there is smoke around.

Meantime, hazard reduction burns are also taking place within the Shoalwater Bay Training Area.

QFES says smoke is currently affecting the area from Yeppoon to Stanage Bay.

What you should do:

  • Stay inside and close windows and doors.
  • Keep respiratory medication close by.
  • Follow your bushfire survival plan now. If you do not have a bushfire survival plan. Make one on the QFES website.
  • Avoid driving through smoke if you can.
  • Watch out for firefighters working in the area.
  • Do not fly drones around the fire or in the warning area. This can block air operations.
