Rockhampton is coming to life with festive cheer as residents decorate their homes, putting them on show for locals and tourists.

Hundreds of people in the region have created eye-catching and magical light show displays, which have started drawing crowds.

The team at Advance Rockhampton have captured a handful of the most spectacular Christmas light displays throughout the region, including the iconic Christmas tree on Quay Street, which you can visit in a self-guided tour in the Explore Rockhampton app.

Rockhampton Region Mayor Tony Williams says it’s wonderful to see our community getting into the Christmas spirit and it is always exciting to see the Riverside Precinct buzzing with activity as it will again on New Year’s Eve.

“We all know fireworks are a really special part of the traditional New Year’s Eve celebrations and having a display at both midnight and 7.30pm will allow families to come and enjoy the event with their children and the party goers to continue into the night,” he says.

Advance Rockhampton Executive Manager Greg Bowden says activating our public spaces at this time of year is invaluable for our local businesses and our visitor economy.

“Rockhampton residents are choosing to stay and spend their money locally during the festive season, as well as showing their visiting friends and family what our wonderful region has to offer,” Mr Bowden said.

The Riverside precinct will come alive on New Year’s Eve with food vendors and amusement rides, plus a fireworks display igniting the skies above the Fitzroy River, with a second display at midnight to bring in the New Year.
